Batgirl

This was honestly my first attempt at painting black and yellow. The yellow went a bit better than I thought it would. It did take a few tries… lots of paint. But it worked ok in the end. As for painting the black, I tried to follow a few pointers from different painters but it didn’t go as planned. She’s not my best work, but decent. At least the hair is good.

Black Canary

She turned out better than I thought.

I am much more comfortable painting blues and purples than any other colours. I had to find some pictures in order to get the yellow lines correctly or at least made it look ok. The actual painting didn’t take as long as I normally take, which makes me happy. :)

What I did differently with this one is that I used less yet more extreme highlights and shadows as well as blue lined all the joints, especially those between the blue and the yellow. I did a wash to get the lines on the legs and then dry brushed (which I never do) to brighten them but it worked out. The hair turned out great! I had to darken it because it just looked too bright the first time so I used the shadow of the original colour as the new base coat.

In all, I’m happy how she turned out. Still need to work on eyes but I’m sure with the many more models I will be painting, I will have plenty of practice to better my brush.

Batwoman

This was my second attempt at painting black… still having a hard time.

However, I signed up for a painting class on how to do perfect it.

I think it’s my first attempt at painting red. Luckily I just watched Jessica Rich’s new painting video and her advice for reds helped. Apparently it is really watery so no need to water it down as well as less is more when it comes to red highlights and shadows.

Gotta keep working hard to get the black painting right.
